A Picture Project

For a long time I've wanted to be able to scan pictures into my computer. It wasn't that I didn't have a scanner--we have a combination printer, fax, scanner. But I kept thinking it would be complicated to install the scanner. It turns out, I just put in the CD and, presto, it was installed.

The hard part was trying to figure out how to get the picture into my blog. I know there has to be a better way, but my scan program lets me click on my e-mail and copy it. So I copied it into my e-mail, and then copied it into my picture file.

So-o-o-o, until I figure out something else, this will work. I do have one little problem. There is a white border around the picture; I can't figure out how to get rid of that, so that all I have is the picture. I guess I'll have to take this one step at a time!

My other picture project was to go through several photo albums and boxes of pictures from my Dad and step-mother's things, and keep only what I thought someone might want. After working on this for several hours, I've gotten rid of all the albums, and the "keepers" are in labeled envelopes to go to the appropriate person or family. I also kept a few of what I considered "vintage" pics, that I just couldn't throw away. One of those is the picture above, which is my Mom and Dad's wedding photo.

Now that I've gone through all the pics, and sort of figured out my scanner, I'm going to the fitness center. I'm feeling the need for a good physical work-out!

I'm so PROUD of your commitment to working out! When I saw you last week, I was trying to figure out why you want to lose 19 more pounds! I didn't ask you then....but I'd think you are closer to a good goal than 19 pounds!?!

I think I might have the answer to your border dilemma. I'll have to look in the stuff I've downloaded about that--

One thing you can do is in font and color part of layout options, make the border color a close match to your background color. That way it won't show.....

Good for you on the working out. Also, I'm sure you will figure out the scanner in no time. The more you play with the different setting the more you will learn.

Good for you! You amaze me and challenge me! When you scan your picture, there will be a scan preview window someplace. There will be a dotted selection border around the area to scan. You can move that in to select only what you want to scan so that you do not get all of the white border. Set your dpi to around 600--the default is probably around 200. These options may not be available if you do a "quick scan" so set the options yourself. Do not accept the defaults. Then click on the scan. Keep experimenting. You will get it.

I am so impressed that you already have your pictures divided! Wow! I am going to have to stop procrastinating.

Once you get the hang of it, scanning is going to keep you busy for a long time.

Wow, you have been busy! It really isn't all that hard to scan once you get the hang of it. Play around with the scan preview page when it pops up. You can resize the picture at that point.

OHHHHH...I thought you were just talking about that little line around your photo....now I see you mean the BROAD white border around it.....Are you making any headway? Looks like you have some good guidance.

Hello Donna, I have found you here after seeing your sister's blog. This is lovely. I am so tecnically challenged and I have worked for years on a computer, but then there was always a program. I too am retired, and widowed. Never remarried but that was my choice. I am going through blogs today as I am off my feet for awhile. Have a wonderful day and do come for a visit.
